NASA Rumble at the Roval

Our resident racer set a new personal best lap at Pikes Peak International Raceway on 04/24/2021 after changing out the stock 18"/19" staggered wheel fitment to a set of 18" race wheels running Toyo R888R tires with 315/30ZR18 up front and 335/30ZR18 in the back. Mark's best lap came on lap 11 of the second session of the day running in the HPDE4/TT-B group with NASA Rocky Mountain Region. Laps 10 and 11 are in the video above. Hang on and enjoy the ride around the Turn 1 banked oval and then into some turns in the infield. This is known as the Roval configuration at PPIR.

Two Laps Under 2:00 at High Plains Raceway

Mark finally broke through the 2:00 barrier at High Plains Raceway on 06/28/2020 running in the HPDE4 Group with NASA Rocky Mountain Region. Not only was it the first time breaking 2:00 minutes, as the in cabin video shows above, it was consecutive sub two minute laps. The two minute lap at HPR is somewhat the "gold standard" that demonstrates a combination of skill and courage to drive at or near the limit of a car. Click and watch the video above and know that the actual ride is not nearly as calm and easy as Mark makes it look.

High Plains Raceway Track Day 04/28/2019

Emich Chevy/VW once again hosted their 10th track day at High Plains Raceway in Byers and 4C members showed up to have some high speed fun on the track with our Corvettes. Mark and Derald had new C7 Z06's to try out and Bob P. and Dave E.had some fun with their Z51's. Mark is a "veteran" at HPR and the video above is from his second session of the day while getting accustomed to the supercharged power of the C7 Z06 and manually shifting the automatic. Other 4C members came out to show support and get rides with Dave and Mark including Mike and Gail, John P., John and Valerie S, and Leo L.  Enjoy the virtual ride along and come out with us the next time we go out to one of the best amateur road tracks in the Rocky Mountain region!

TORCA Autocross at  EVOC 08/26/2018

The Top of the Rockies Corvette Association (TORCA) hosted an autocross at the Douglas County Emergency Vehicle Operations Center in Littleton. The weather was fantastic and the course proved to be challenging. So much so, after the first 7 or 8 people ended up with a DNF caused by errors at the exact same part of the layout, the action was stopped to make a course correction by adding some additional pointer cones. Mark and Matt represented 4C at this event. Getting to experience what a Corvette can do in a safe, controlled environment is very fun so try it out sometime!

TORCA Autocross at CSP Track 06/10/2018

The Top of the Rockies Corvette Association (TORCA) once again hosted an autocross on Table Mountain in Golden at the Colorado State Patrol Training Track. This is a very cool autocross venue and TORCA did a nice job at creating a fun and challenging course. The 4C had a great turn out with 7 cars participating in the event along with others who watched and rode along with our drivers. This time, not only did Mark and Les participate but also Bob K, Bob P, John, Mike and Walt. There was some healthy competitive spirit with several members vying for the top time for our club. As for riders, Gail, Kelly, Phil, and Robin all had fun riding in the Corvettes. The weather forecast called for 95 degree temps which made the decision to just participate in the morning track season easier for all but two of our die hard members. The rest of the crew left and stopped to have lunch at 5281 Steak Salad and Seafood putting a nice exclamation point on a very fun day.

DCA Autocross 05/28/2018

Some of our 4C members had some Corvette fun on Memorial Day at DCA's autocross at the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility. At daybreak, most everyone awoke to drizzle and foggy conditions and there was concern that we would have a wet, slippery course. However, the late May sun burned off the fog and we ended up with partly sunny warm conditions for the autocross. Mike, Walt, and Mark entered the event and signed up to do two races of two runs each. It was a deceptively challenging course, especially since there were no painted lines. Phillip and Gail also came out and rode with Walt and MIke. Leo, Coop, and Mark G. also made it out to watch the autocrossers. Everyone finished just before some early afternoon sprinkles moved back in, making it a successful, fun event for everyone.

High Plains Raceway Track Day 04/29/2018

Once again this year, the 4C participated in the Emich Volkswagen/Chevrolet track day at High Plains Raceway (HPR) located near Deer Trail. This is the premier amateur road track in the Rocky Mountain Region and if you have never had the opportunity to take your Corvette on this 2.55 mile course, you are missing a great experience! HPR repaved the surface of the turns this past winter making for a much smoother ride and a dramatic reduction of tire wear. Les, Mark, Tim and John G. took their Corvettes each representing various C6 & C7 models including Z51, Grand Sport, and Z06. The weather proved to be wonderful with temperatures hovering in the low 80's on the day of the event. Mark and Les took turns taking a number of 4C members for rides on the track to show off their track driving skills as well as the capabilities of the C7.  Mark captured the video above beating his best lap time from last year by 5 seconds. Thanks to Gretchen, Kelly, Gail, Mike, Dana, and James for coming out in support of our 4C drivers!

Bandimere Track Night 04/25/2018

Bandimere Speedway hosts an event called the Colorado State Patrol Take it to the Track night running on 22 Wednesday nights for the 2018 season. The "Responsible Speed" program has been created by the Colorado State Patrol and Bandimere Speedway to provide a positive alternative to illegal street racing by "Taking it to the Track" - providing a controlled, safe, and fun drag racing program available to all Colorado drivers. The CSP even race their patrol cars with lights flashing against other participants. Mark, Les, and John G. participated in the opening night of this event along with hundreds of other people wanting to run their cars on the quarter mile track for the first time in 2018. The weather once again cooperated with temps in the low 60's and clear skies. Mark captured the video above of the last run of the night against Les. The video is pretty cool with Mark's Grand Sport nipping Les' Z51 at the finish.

Cone Zone Autocross at PPIR 04/15/2018

Our resident 4C racers, Les and Mark, participated in the Colorado Springs Corvette Club Cone Zone Autocross on Tax Day, 4/15/18. CSCC does a good job at hosting this event every year and this year's course layout was fun and challenging. The weather ended up being nice, dry, and sunny with temperatures in the low 60s. This event was the first autocross for Les and he ended up winning the Novice class. Mark got third in his class and ended up 22nd overall out of 46 entrants. It is really fun driving the C7 in any type of speed or skill event so give it a try sometime!!!
