Dave and Susan Effler
Our history goes all the way back to 1972 when we began dating as sophomores at Wiesbaden High School in Germany where our dad’s were stationed in the USAF. After a couple of years we went our separate ways with Dave joining the Navy as an avionics tech after high school and finally retiring in 1999. Susan joined the Air Force and spent 4 years as a dental tech before getting out to raise her two kids and going to college. After many years of raising separate families it only took a single email to bring us back together. After 23 years apart we finally joined our families creating an amazing blended group with Susan’s son Jake (36), daughter Jenny (32) and Dave’s two sons Josh (31) and Mike (27). While the kids are grown and gone we do have a couple four legged kids, Gracie (English Springer Spaniel) and Kitty (domestic long hair cat).
As we were both active military and military brats we have lived all over the world from Wiesbaden Germany, Clovis NM, Corpus Christi TX, Pasadena CA, Hampton VA, Ramstein Germany and Martinsburg WV just to name few of those places. Of all those places I have traveled the best has to be the trip Susan and I took by train to Paris for in the summer of 1973. What an amazing adventure for a 16 year old and his beautiful girl friend. Since joining forces in 2001 we have called Aurora home. Susan is a Special Needs Coordinator at Cherry Creek Schools and Dave is a Senior IT Analyst with DirecTV. Dave has always been into cars since his first a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. But the real game changer was finding a used 1972 Targa Blue 454 with 4 speed at a local Chevy dealership. Back then there was no way I could own one but the die was cast and I had found my second love…..Corvette. Over the years Dave has owned a 1969 Camaro Z28, 1972 Datsun 240Z, 1999 Yamaha Roadstar and a 2005 BMW 3301 ZHP. All just stop gaps till owning the ultimate prize a Corvette.
That ultimate prize came in the way of winning a 2015 Corvette from the National Corvette Museum “Build Your Own Raffle” on November 13, 2014. We picked the colors and options going with Shark Gray, Z51 Coupe, 3LT, black leather, mag shocks, black wheels and red calipers, carbon fiber roof and dash. We took museum delivery on March 6, 2015 and were surprised to be informed upon our arrival at the Museum that our car was the 10,000th Corvette to be delivered at the NCM under the R8C option (National Corvette Museum Delivery). Once we learned we would be Corvette owners we began looking for other owners like ourselves to share our new passion. What we wanted was to be a part of a group of friends who had a Corvette problem. After investigating several clubs from Colorado Springs to Boulder, we finally came across the Central Colorado Corvette Club. It’s a laid back group who loves to have fun with friends and their Corvettes. From finding a great place for lunch, whether a pub or a member’s back yard, to playing glow in the dark putt putt, or finding a great place for fudge, this is a down to earth group that we enjoy being a part of. We are looking forward to spending more time with this great group of Corvette owners.
