Despite the Cold, the 2018 Punkin Chunkin Shows Were A Success

December 14, 2018

2018 Punkin Chunkin Corvette Show

Photo and Article by: Keith Bennett

This year, Mother Nature decided to show us her stuff and see how we would react. On Saturday, 10/6/18, at 5:00am our team could be seen rubbing their eyes in disbelief at the skiff of snow on the ground, and the temperature outside was only 32 degrees. There was also a very stiff wind coming out of the east. As daylight broke and the snow started melting and after checking the show field for soft ground, it was determined that we would let our love of Corvettes and friendship be our warmth and do the best we could do to put on our car show. Right out of the gate, we started parking cars and before we knew it, we had 46 Corvettes from various clubs and individuals. 4C received many compliments ranging from the quality of the trophies to our tradition of lining the exit to wave good bye to our friends. From the number of repeat participants, it is becoming clear that our show is becoming a Fall tradition.

On Sunday, 10/7/18, Mother Nature had another message for us, "I'm not done with you yet." The low ceiling, bordering on fog, coupled with high humidity and temps in the 40's made for a bone chilling day. Despite this, we had a variety of hot rods and trucks show up and spirits were high. In all, we had about 16 vehicles show up and everyone was a little happy that we wrapped it up a little early and handed out the beautiful awards.

Because of the weather it was decided to waive the entry fees but some participants decide to pay anyway. The 4C donated these proceeds to the 9Cares Colorado Shares event that was held in December.

To see all the pictures our photographers took, please check out the Corvette Fall Blast Pictures and Open Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show Pictures by clicking on the preceding links or going to our Flickr photo album.

Thanks to all our wonderful sponsors, our hardy 4C members, and participants who braved the Fall chill, and we will see you all again next year at our 2019 Punkin Chunkin shows.

Corvette Fun and Memories in the Mountains

September 1, 2018

Central Coloado Corvette Club Terry and Chris Cooper

The Colorado Corvette Club once again hosted their Corvette Mountain Madness show in Grand Lake on August 18, 2018 in support of Grand County charitable associations. Not only does this show support the local charities but it also benefits local mountain community merchants because many people who attend the show go out to eat, shop in the stores, and stay for the weekend.

As in the past three years, the 4C (our club) has significantly supported and participated in this show and this year was no different with 4C having 32 cars on display which represented nearly 35% of the show. Thanks to all our members, other clubs, and individuals who ignored the weather forecast and braved about 1.5 hours of rain during the show to make this year’s event another successful one. Speaking of success, 4C came away with some trophies: C1 – 3rd place Brad Beall; C2 – 1st place, Matt Elledge; C4 - 2nd place, Lew Franklin; C4 – 2nd place, Bob & Cathy Kenworthy; C5 – 1st place, Joe & Karen Babish; C6 – 1st place, Randy & Heidi Stewart; C6 – 3rd place, Derald Lyons, and; C7 – 1st place, Terry Cooper.

A very touching moment occurred during the awards ceremony when Terry Cooper accepted the first place plaque for the C7 category. Her husband Dave recently passed away so this was a special remembrance for Dave, his contributions to 4C, and his fun spirit that touched nearly everyone in our club.  All in all, this show is a great event and one that 4C already looks forward to participating in next year.

4C Celebrates Third Anniversary and Continued Growth

May 20, 2018

On Saturday, May 19, the 4C celebrated it's third anniversary in good spirits and a with sense of camaraderie braving very cool mid-May temperatures in the 40's with drizzling rain at the Wheatlands Clubhouse in Aurora. Around 64 members participated in the celebration enjoying each other's company, mingling with our newest members, and playing some Bingo. After a few hard fought Bingo games, we all enjoyed some good food from Jim and Nick's BBQ who catered this year's event.

The club also welcomed back two of our founding members, Walt and Michele Curtis, who moved to New York but, for the last year, have been traveling around the country in their RV and C7 Grand Sport before arriving in Colorado where they will spend some time this summer. 4C President Les Rhoades introduced Walt and Michele and explained that they have NCCC club numbers 001 and 002 and that our club now has 101 members!!  The growth of our club is a testament to our member's active participation and willingness to lead club activities such as day trips and social dinners, coordinate member participation in regional events, and put on the club's signature event, the Punkin Chunkin shows, which have been a great success the past couple of years.

Les also announced to the membership that this will be his last year as club president as he and his wife Kelly will be moving to Austria next summer. Les mentioned that he is proud of the club and what we have accomplished and feels confident that the club will have continued growth and success due to the energy, passion, and leadership of our members.

4C to Donate to Rocky Mountain Fisher House Foundation

February 16, 2018

At our February 14, 2018 club meeting, it was announced that the Rocky Mountain Fisher House had been voted to receive a club donation in the sum of $2000. The Rocky Mountain Fisher House is, "Dedicated to the enrichment of the quality of life of active duty military, veterans, and their families who stay at the Rocky Mountain Fisher House while a loved one is undergoing extended medical treatment at the Eastern Colorado Health Care System or VA approved facility." Despite our club being less than three years young, we are building a tradition of giving back to the community. This donation is made possible due to our hard working and caring club members and the tremendous support of our club sponsor; Ed Bozarth Chevrolet. We will revisit this wonderful and giving donation process in the future and spread the wealth again…so to speak.

Second Annual Punkin Chunkin Shows a Smashing Success

November 3, 2017

The 4C conducted their 2nd annual Punkin Chunkin car show events, October 7th and 8th, at the City of Aurora Horse Track grounds. The word of our events got out and this year’s Open Car Show on Saturday, and the Corvette Fall Blast Show on Sunday, had great turn outs and everyone enjoyed the fantastic weather with clear blue skies and warm sunshine both days. Aside from our great car shows, there were other family friendly activities for kids and adults alike, especially the marquee event, the “world famous” Punkin Chunkin contest.

Feedback from our car show participants was very positive regarding the fun, cheerful attitude of our members, the quality of the awards, timeliness of scheduled activities, and the club send-off where the 4C members lined up and personally thanked, waved, and said “Good bye” to all the show participants as they drove out the venue exit.

This year, musical entertainment featuring old-time Rock ‘n Roll was provided on both days by Cruisin’ Productions, Cruisin’ Dave, and the Open Car Show was expanded to include trucks/4x4’s and motorcycles.  A combination of great planning, communication, and nice weather were all important factors in this year’s event being a huge success. The number of participants and cash receipts for 2017 increased by 3 to 4 times over our inaugural events in 2016. For example, we had 57 participants in the Open Show versus 15 in 2016, and 43 attendees versus 15 for the Corvette Fall Blast Show in 2016.

Thanks to all our members who pitched in and did what it took to make this happen. Also, thanks to all our sponsors for helping make this such a great event for the Denver area car enthusiast community. Our sponsors for this year’s shows included: Adam’s Polishes, Awards with More, Appraisals by Gary George, Backstreet Tavern and Grill, Discount Tire, Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, Gateway Classic Cars, Natural Grocers, Pristine Powder Coating, and Sonic.

Finally, a “Big Thanks!” goes out to our 4C club sponsor, Ed Bozarth Chevrolet, for his visible and significant support for our club and the Punkin Chunkin event over the past two plus years. The Punkin Chunkin Car Shows are the 4C’s signature event and we look forward hosting an even better show in 2018!

Central Colorado Corvette Club
Second Anniversary and Membership Milestones!

May 30, 2017

The Central Colorado Corvette Club celebrated our second anniversary in style on May 13, 2017 by kicking off the party with a car show to display our beautiful Corvettes, then enjoyed each other's company and comradery with a good, old-fashioned barbecue.  We had about 29 Corvettes on display and over 50 members in attendance. The weather was fantastic and we could not have asked for a more beautiful day.

After the morning's car show and lunch celebration, we headed out to the Arapahoe Horse Park grounds for some aerial acrobatics.  Thanks to Les, who meticulously planned and designed the configuration to be formed, and with some help from Jack, they marked the ground indicating where everyone should park their cars to create a "4C" formation.  Many thanks to one of our newer members, John Sheeley, who deftly piloted his drone above our cars (without incident) to capture some pictures and video from the sky.

It is hard to believe that as of May 30, our club’s membership now stands at 70 members!  Based on the email distribution from our first official Club newsletter in June of 2015 where there were 25 names listed, we have nearly tripled in size in just two years! Congratulations to all the members of the 4Cs who make our club the best and fastest growing Corvette Club in Colorado.

Jack Ryan FCOA Member Central Colorado Corvette Club
Central Colorado Corvette Club's First FCOA Member

September 2016 By: Jack Tryon

So, as I was strolling through the NCCC website I stumbled upon the FCOA link and after reading it I knew that my grandson Jack Ryan was the perfect candidate for FCOA. Jack Ryan has been in love with Papa’s Corvettes forever and what better way to get him involved and share the passion I have for the Corvette!

So now the Central Colorado Corvette Club has its very first FCOA member. We are still awaiting the membership packet to see what it’s all about. But we are sure to have a great time as we share the passion of the car his Papa loves.

Jack Ryan is 10yrs old. Has a passion for sports, basketball being his favorite. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and anything outdoor related. He has two siblings that he’s a big help with as well. So if you see him with his club shirt and badge on please take a moment to say "Hello!"
